Social Justice Alliance
The Bowie State University and University of Maryland Social Justice Alliance (SJA) aims to combat intolerance and promote social justice and equity for all, inspired by the legacy of 2nd Lt. Richard Collins, III. The alliance offers educational opportunities for students from both universities, integrating social justice into the curriculum and fostering constructive dialogue and collaboration across cultural divides.
Key initiatives include:
-
Hosting public programs like symposiums and workshops to drive conversation and action for change.
-
Launching a joint course, "Hate Crimes in the U.S.: What Lt. Richard W. Collins III Can Teach Us About History, Hope, and Healing," in fall 2024.
-
Providing a college fellowship program through the Summer Research Initiative, offering rising juniors and seniors an intensive research experience.
-
Hosting a Day of Service for students and veterans to build community and address food apartheid in Baltimore at Strength 2 Love 2 Farm.
Support from individuals and other funders will help amplify these efforts and advance our mission for social justice. Contact us to learn how you can get involved in this first-in-the-nation work.
